Mr. Shams is a pioneer in the business of legal-oriented investment. Together with Mr. Katz, he conceived and founded the Legal Risk Strategies & Finance business at Credit Suisse. He was a Managing Director of the bank for 15 years and a member of the Global Credit Products Operating Committee. During his tenure, Mr. Shams was the Head of Special Situations for the Leveraged Finance Business, where he developed niche strategies and accretive businesses within the Fixed Income unit. In addition to the Legal Risk Strategies business, he created and managed (i) a multi-billion dollar derivatives business focused on writing leveraged swaps on loans traded within the bank, (ii) a credit business focused on vendor finance, trade receivables protection and trade claim sourcing, and (iii) two web-based loan trade settlement platforms that became the market standard in both the U.S. and Europe. Prior to Credit Suisse, Mr. Shams was general counsel for the High Yield and Leverage Finance Business of Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette. Before that, he practiced law at the firms of Dewey Ballantine, Richards, Spears, Kibbe & Orbe, and Mandel & Esbin, specializing in bank lending, securities, bankruptcy and derivatives. Mr. Shams received his B.A., phi beta kappa, magna cum laude, from Columbia College (1986) and his J.D. from Columbia University School of Law (1990).
Aaron Katz is a recognized leader in the US commercial litigation investment market. Aaron launched the litigation finance group at Credit Suisse in 2006 and was instrumental in building it until the spinoff of Parabellum Capital. He has been actively involved in every area of the business. Aaron has developed relationships with many of the finest litigators and law firms and other key strategic partners. Prior to joining Credit Suisse in 2006, Aaron was a practicing litigator for nearly 16 years, both at major law firms and the US Department of Justice. He has litigated both affirmative and defensive matters and he has experience at both the trial and appellate levels. Most recently, Aaron was a partner in the litigation department of DLA Piper's New York office. Prior to that, he served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York in Manhattan and was an associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell. Aaron was a law clerk to the Honorable Anita Brody, United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
Marty brings more than 30 years of experience as a top legal practitioner and management leader to Parabellum. Prior to Parabellum, Marty served as a Partner at Linklaters LLP for ten years, heading the firm’s U.S. Banking Department and U.S. Restructuring Group. He was also elected as a member of the Linklaters International Board., the governing body for the firm. Previously, Marty was a Partner at Latham & Watkins LLP for 16 years, where he served as head of the New York Finance Department. Marty began his legal career at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz.

Marty holds a B.A. from Hampshire College and a J.D. from Fordham University, where he was an Associate Editor of the Fordham Law Review.
David Icikson joined Parabellum after accumulating more than 22 years of management experience in both the public and private sector. David spent 14 years at Goldman Sachs, where he served as Chief of Staff for Fixed Income Americas Sales and Global Recruiting. He was also Global Head of Training for the Securities Division. Prior to joining Goldman, David served as Deputy Executive Secretary at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, where he was a core member of the Chief of Staff’s office for Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin.
David received his B.A. from the University of Michigan, with High Distinction and Highest Honors, and a Master of Public Policy degree from Harvard University.
